Timbers are thicker cross sections of lumber typically used in post and beam construction. They are a variety of uses and can be sized to support a specific load or bridge an specific span in a building. Applications range from purlins, the horizontal roof members that span the trusses or rafters and support the roof cladding, to rafters, the sloped roof frame members that extend from the top wall plate to the roof ridge.
Timbers are also used in diverse applications in and around the jobsite such as temporary supports, shoring and the skidding heavy equipment on rough sites. Timbers are also used extensively in the transportation industry for dunnage when shipping very large and expensive machinery.
